Set of 6 glazed ceramic tea bowls or mugs by the famed potter and architect Teruo Hara. Brown-green color. The bowls are signed with "H", Hara's signature mark. His creations are considered highly valuable collectibles and they rarely appear on the market. This set comes from the Hara estate in the Washington DC area. Excellent vintage condition, no visible signs of wear.

Born in Chiba on Tokyo Bay in 1929, Teruo Hara was a known member of the Crafts Group of Japan, as well as the avant garde Sodeishu group of craftsmen-artists who rebelled against the rigidity of Japanese artistic tradition. In 1958, he came to the US and began showing his work, teaching, and working with ceramics studios. In the early 1960s, he settled in Warrenton, VA, where he established the Kobo Group design studio and began teaching oriental glazing techniques at the Corcoran, the Haystack School, and at Mary Washington College. In 1968, The Washington Post called Hara's work 'the most exciting examples of glazed ceramics being produced in the United States today.' Hara regularly showed his work in Brazil, Italy, Japan, Germany, and at the Smithsonian Institution. His pottery creations are featured in Moderne Gallery in Philadelphia.
