William Joseph Shayer Junior (1811-1892) was the son of another famous English painter William Shayer (1787-1879). The two are sometimes confused as they often painted together and signed their names in a similar manner. While both artists painted equestrian scenes, Shayer Senior preferred landscapes, while Shayer Junior was primarily a painter of sporting subjects.
