Antique architectural engraving of Porche de L'Entrée du Palais (the entrance door) to Palais de Justice de Dijon, made by the legendary French engraver Claude Sauvageot in the 1860s. The engraving is covered with glass and set in a wooden frame painted in matte silver color. Please note that paper has several age-related discoloration areas, mainly in the upper right corner. Please inspect the pictures carefully.

Measurements:

Dimensions with frame: 16.5" x 13.2" (42 x 33.5 cm).
Dimensions of engraving inside the frame (with margins): 13.6" x 10.5" (34.5 x 26.5 cm).
Frame's depth: 1.5" (4 cm).

With the building boom of the 1860s in Paris, the demands for historically accurate ornament for both the exterior and interior decoration created a market for architectural model books. Claude Sauvageot (1832-1885) was one of the pioneers of this new genre. The featured engraving plaque is from Sauvageot's 4-volume collection 'Palais, Châteaux, Hôtels, Et Maisons De France Du XVe Au XVIIIe Siècle,' published by A. Morel in 1867. We have another engraving from this series, sold separately.
