Large aquatint or watercolor print of red poppies still life by Gustave Fraipont (1849-1923). Framed in wood, under glass, signed in the lower right corner. The artwork is made on a thick dark paper, which beautifully highlights the main colors of red, golden yellow, and green. There is a personalized message in verso: "1st plate of flowers. Made in France. Nov 15, 1920. Henri Savallard." Fraipont's work is rarely available in such a large size, especially when featuring a floral motif.

Gustave Fraipont was a painter, sculptor, illustrator, and poster-designer. Born in Belgium, he later became a naturalized French citizen. He collaborated on Le Courrier Français and other magazines. He also created numerous travel posters, largely for the French rail, and illustrated books about Paris and other French regions, including the Vosges, the Auvergne and the Jura, as well as children’s books. Fraipont specialized in watercolor and etching. He authored several treatises about different art media: drawing in pen-and-ink, lithography, and the art of painting flowers and landscapes in watercolor. Fraipont created illustrations to numerous books, including Paul Cosseret’s 'Le Livre des Fleurs/The Book of Flowers' (1895). His travel posters are featured at the Musée Départmental Breton, France.
