Antique black-and-white engraving by the famous English engraver J.T. Willmore (1800-1863) 'Venice The Dogana', after J. M. W. Turner's painting. In wooden frame with golden paint, under glass. Very good antique condition. Please note that we offer two Willmore's engravings of Turner's paintings, with matching framing: 'Venice - The Dogana' and 'Venice - The Grand Canal.' These are listed separately and can be seen together in the last picture.

James Tibbits Willmore (1800-1863) was an English engraver, known for his amazingly detailed engravings of artworks by Chalon, Leitch, Stanfield, Landseer, Eastlake, Creswick and Ansdell and, most prominently, J.T. Turner. Willmore engraved thirteen pictures on copper for Turner's England and Wales series, beginning in 1828, and eight on steel for his Rivers of France. Willmore's engravings are featured in many museums, including The Met and Tate.
Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775 – 1851) is considered one of England’s greatest painters. Prolific and eccentric, his talent blossomed early – at first in drawings, prints and watercolors, and later with oils. He is particularly known for his turbulent seascapes and dramatic landscapes, as well as the use of light in his paintings. Turner's art is a part of many museum collections in Europe and North America.
