Large hand-colored engraving of a picturesque view of Vienna titled 'Vue Generale de la Ville de Vienne.' Created in 1820 by the famed engraver Leopold Beyer (1789-1877), after J. Alt. The engraving is executed with great precision and beautifully hand colored. In this lovely view of the city from the south, the foreground is composed of a bucolic setting. Farmers and tradesmen hauling their wares along a road into the city, while passing a shepherd with his flock. The city in the distance has the easily recognizable St. Stephen's Cathedral, as well as Karlskirche and other notable buildings.
This work is in excellent condition, despite its age. It is framed in a wooden gilded frame, which highlights the colors of the engraving. There are two stamps in Dutch in verso. Leopold Beyer's work rarely appears on the antiques market.
