Lusterware is a type of pottery with a metallic glaze that gives the effect of iridescence, produced by metallic oxides in an overglaze finish. This is achieved through a second firing at a lower temperature in a reduction kiln, which excludes oxygen. Lusterware pottery techniques were used as early as the 9th century AD.
