Vintage Russian hand carved and hand painted round box with a lid. It was created using a traditional woodworking technique called Polkhov Maidansky. The box is in excellent vintage condition. It is hand carved from traditional softwood and covered with transparent lacquer. The lid is perfectly aligned with the box and closes tight. There is a label at the bottom of the box, indicating that it was made in 1982.
Measurements:
Height: 3" (7.5 cm).
Diameter: 5.25" (13.5 cm).
The Polkhov Maidansky technique was first developed in villages near Nizhny Novgorod and is distinguished by large usually red-hued flowers. More rarely, the Polkhov Maidansky creations depict rural scenes, as is the case with this box. Note the great detail that went into this work.
